In order to know whether we are talking about international transport or not, it must be taken into account whether the driver starts the two consecutive reduced weekly rest periods outside the Member State where his company is established and outside the driver's place of residence.- Following this improvement, an exception is added on the circumstances in which a driver may exceed the daily and weekly driving time by a total of one hour, in order to be able to reach his home or place of business and have the weekly rest period.- Furthermore, he may exceed the driving time by up to two hours when he has taken an uninterrupted break of 30 minutes immediately after the additional driving to reach his home or place of business in order to have the normal weekly rest period.- It is important to clarify that these exceptions must be reported manually on the record sheet or on the printout of the recording equipment.- If driving time has been exceeded, it must be compensated by an equivalent rest period, together with another rest period in the following three weeks.- It is also specified that transport companies must organise the routes so that a driver is not more than 4 consecutive weeks away from his place of business or home. <h2>Transports Porqueres celebrates 55 years of history with the incorporation of the third generation of the family.</h2> In the 1940s, Joan Ferrer i Company, a resident of Usall (Porqueres) and the eldest son of a family of masoveros, began transporting firewood from the forest to Banyoles with the family cart. He did this while working as a farm labourer, until in May 1960 one of his customers suggested that he should devote himself entirely to transport and sold him his lorry. Buying that second-hand lorry, Joan and his wife, Rosenda Mach, started the family business. With a lot of effort and dedication, Joan expanded the business until he had six lorries. His son, Salvador Ferrer, helped his father from a very young age. In January 1986, the company Transports Porqueres. S.A., incorporating the second generation: Salvador and his wife, Rosa Isern. These were times of change and the young couple faced many challenges, which they overcame and strengthened, always with the support of their closest family members. From the beginning of Transports Porqueres until today, the market has been changing and the company has been able to adapt to it, always betting on new technologies, quality and the environment. Currently, the third generation is already working, with a large fleet of trucks and a wide range of collaborators, where, together with the human team, they coordinate and carry out the work to offer a good service to the client. After a few days of uncertainty, on Sunday 8 March, the Italian governments announced a communiqué regarding the preventive isolation in Italy due to COVID-19 better known as Corona Virus. They explain that 16 million citizens living in Lombardy and 14 other regions of Northern Italy will not be able to leave or enter Italy except in an emergency situation for health reasons as the affected area has been considered a "Red Zone" until 3 April in order to counteract the Corona Virus (COVID-19) epidemic. From today morning, these measures are extended on the whole Italian territory, with the same rules contained in the DPCM. Reliable and well-informed sources on transport in Italy state that heavy goods vehicles are exempted from the traffic limits in isolation areas, as it is considered one of the professional activities that can justify internal journeys within the country as well as crossing borders. Driver's Working HoursA driver's working day cannot exceed 9 hours per day; however, there is the possibility of extending it to 10 hours only twice a week.As for the weekly working time, it cannot exceed 56 hours, and the total accumulated over two weeks cannot exceed 90 hours.It is essential for drivers to respect these limits to avoid penalties and, above all, to preserve their health and safety. Breaks and Rest Periods in TransportAccording to the regulations, after 4 hours and 30 minutes of driving, the driver must take a break of at least 45 minutes. This break can be split into two: a first break of 15 minutes and a second of 30 minutes, as long as the driving times are respected.Additionally, the driver is entitled to a daily rest period of at least 11 consecutive hours, which can be reduced to 9 hours three times between two weekly rest periods. Regarding the weekly rest period of 45 hours, it can be reduced to 24 hours every two weeks, but the difference must be compensated within the next three weeks. And what if there are two drivers? What would the driving times be?In this case, after the first driver's four and a half hours, they can be replaced by the second driver, and therefore, the 45-minute break is not required. However, as clearly stated in Article 8 (paragraph 5) of the Regulation stated above, both drivers must respect the 9 hours of continuous rest. Recording Working Hours: The TachographThe tachograph is an essential tool in road transport, as it allows for the precise recording of driving times, breaks, and rest periods of drivers. It is a mandatory device in all heavy goods and passenger transport vehicles, as established by European regulations.
